Gary Terhune, Experienced Teacher Gary earned a Bachelor Degree in English Education from Canisius College in 1998. After college, Gary taught for a short time at Allegany-Limestone Middle School before moving back to the Buffalo area. In 2004, he earned his Masters Degree in Special Education from Buffalo State College. Gary was hired at East Aurora Middle School in the summer of 2004. Since then, he has taught 7th and 8th grade English-Language Arts. In East Aurora, Gary has served as the director of the Middle School Drama club for the past fourteen years. In this role, Gary has directed multiple plays and talent shows. He also wrote and earned a grant to replace outdated stage curtains. Gary also served on the Executive Board of East Aurora's local NYSUT chapter for several years. In his time in East Aurora, Gary has also mentored many new teachers, helping them to adjust to their new professions or their new role within the district. He received student nominated "My Favorite Teacher" awards from Barnes and Noble and the Buffalo Bills. Recently, Gary has collaborated with colleague, Amie Marcklinger to create and implement the Honors Experience Program. This new program provides opportunities for students to build leadership skills while pursuing their passions, and is being shared with other districts, in the hopes of creating a regional middle school honors network. Gary maintains that collaborative efforts between faculty members, parents, and students is essential for building a school-family culture.
