Grant Opportunities
Youth Voices: In Print
Literary Magazine Initiative
A troubling few middle and secondary schools have operating student-run literary magazines in our region. The Western New York Network of English Teachers, in partnership with the Center for English Teaching at Buffalo State, is excited to announce $1,000 individual grants to teachers and schools to support the development of student-run literary magazines. Awardees will receive a $500.00 stipend for advising their school's magazine, along $500.00 for print publication. For more details please see the "about" section below.
About
Youth Voices: In Print is an initiative to support student-run literary magazines in local middle and high schools. Four teachers will receive a $500.00 stipend, $500.00 publishing grant, and two free professional development workshops to support the development and publication of their school's literary arts magazine. Interested students will be featured at a special session at the annual Youth Voices conference in May, where they will share their work with conference attendees. We will also host a magazine launch party/reading in June to celebrate the publications.
Stipends will be delivered to awardees at the launch party. Publishing grants will be sent directly to the printer. Awardees are required to attend two hour-long after school professional development workshops at Buffalo State college. Additional support will be provided as needed.
Applications are due November 21st, 2022.
This initiative is made possible through the generous support of the Cullen Foundation. More information can be found here: https://www.thecullenfoundation.org/
